Green Sanctuary Committee

The Green Sanctuary Committee is a branch of the Social Justice Committee whose mission is to implement the seventh principle of Unitarian Universalism, “respect for the interdependent web of life of which we are a part”. The Committee is responsible for educating and encouraging “greener choices” within the church and larger community. These initiatives include sponsoring children at a nature camp each summer, conducting three church services annually, promoting recycling and the use of eco-friendly products in the church, and organizing a community-wide metal recycling event each year. The Green Sanctuary Committee maintains an informational bulletin board and provides monthly “green tips” to church members in Bridging. In 2008, the Committee completed an extensive process to earn certification by the UUA as a “Green Sanctuary Congregation” and in 2012 was the recipient of the “Elise Ames Parker Friend of Conservation” Award for its “Kids to Camp” environmental justice program.
